Where are we coming from?

Whether we are consulting on college or graduate school, traditional day, boarding or therapeutic school placement or simply coaching a client forward, our work is about helping young people (and their families) achieve a significant next step. Understandably, our conversations begin with discussions around desired goals and outcomes– where it is we want to go. While the desire to achieve a specific outcome is why clients hire us, we believe each process should also bear in mind where it is that clients (and ourselves) are coming from, and where it is that clients (and ourselves) find themselves (ourselves) right now. In orienting initial and on-going conversations only around outcomes, it’s easy to be hijacked by goals (where are we going to), and lose touch with our deeper values (where are we truly and most meaningfully coming from) as well as the vital presence required to stay grounded in the here and now (how to show up as our best selves ). By zooming in and out and around these values and keeping them in mind as each search process uniquely unfolds, working partnerships remain sensitively aligned to meaningful goals, process and awareness– and better outcomes will follow.
