Michelle Berg, M.A., Psy.D.

Michelle Berg Dr. Berg earned her B.A. in Psychology from The George Washington University, her M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Marymount University and her Psy.D in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She has several years of clinical experience in a university setting including DePaul University in Chicago and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Prior to attending graduate school, Dr. Berg provided individual, family and group therapy to adolescents and young adults. Many of her clients were students with Learning Disabilities and/or Attention Deficit Disorder/ Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity (LD/ADD/ADHD). Dr. Berg took a special interest in these students and has focused her college advising and placement practice on students with LD/ADD/ADHD. Dr. Berg identifies schools that offer substantial academic support and/or programs that help high school students transition to college life. In addition to offering advising and placement services for students with special needs, Dr. Berg is also the parent of a child with learning disabilities.

Brie Jeweler-Bentz, M.A., Psy.D.

Brie Jeweler-Bentz Dr. Jeweler-Bentz joined the School Counseling Group in 2009 and is a native of the Washington, DC area. She attended Montgomery County public schools, earned a B.A in Psychology from the University of Michigan, and received her Psy.D. in clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She has several years of clinical experience in university counseling centers, including DePaul University in Chicago and, most recently, The George Washington University in Washington, DC. Dr. Jeweler-Bentz has also taught at the undergraduate and graduate level and has been a private academic tutor and college advisor for local area high school students. Prior to her graduate studies, Dr. Jeweler-Bentz worked as an undergraduate admissions officer for the University of Michigan. She was responsible for reviewing prospective freshman application materials and for making subsequent recommendations for admission. Dr. Jeweler-Bentz has a clinical interest in the stress that often accompanies the college application process, and she has given several lectures on the topic.

Courtney J. Merrill, L.M.F.T.

Courtney MerrillCourtney Merrill earned her BA in Psychology from Purdue University and her MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Brigham Young University. She has been working with adolescents and their families since 2002, starting as a therapist in a Wilderness Therapy program and then as a therapist, Clinical Director, and Executive Director of a Residential Treatment program. Courtney has a strong background in clinical assessment and family systems work. Courtney has presented to numerous groups of all ages on the issues of body image, eating disorders, and self-esteem and has developed therapeutic groups to address those issues. She has lived all over the United States and spent 18 months abroad in Santiago, Chile.

Anne Vinson

Client Relations

Anne Vinson Anne Vinson joined the School Counseling Group in 2011. She supports and facilitates family and school communications for the director, as well as oversees overall office functions. Ms. Vinson graduated from Stone Ridge in Bethesda, and obtained a B.A. from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York with an overseas trimester at Oxford. Later, she undertook coursework towards a Master’s Degree in Learning Disabilities from American University. Anne lived with her family for four years in the Netherlands, facilitating an overseas move and application to the American School of the Hague. Upon her return to DC, she managed first-hand the private school placement process for her children, who attended St. Albans and Holton-Arms. Upon their graduation, she then experienced the college admissions process. Back in Washington, Anne worked in the international relocation industry for 11 years. As a result of her personal and professional experiences, Anne brings a breadth of understanding and perspective to her work at SCG.

Peter A. Sturtevant, Jr., M.A., M.A.L.S.

Peter Sturtevant Peter A. Sturtevant, Jr. became Director of the School Counseling Group in 2000, after eighteen years in independent schools. From 1992-2000, Mr. Sturtevant served as Head of School at, first, The Gunston School and, later, Gunston Day School in Centreville, Maryland. Previously, Mr. Sturtevant worked for ten years at the Maret School in Washington, DC, teaching English and humanities, coaching, advising seniors in the college admissions process, and serving as Senior Master of the Upper School. Mr. Sturtevant is a Washington, DC native, having attended the Potomac School and Landon School before receiving his B.A. from Bowdoin College and his M.A. from Middlebury College. For two years, he attended public elementary school in Burlington, Vermont. He recently received his M.A.L.S. from Skidmore College in Counseling Philosophy. Mr. Sturtevant is a member of WISER, NACAC, and IECA.

Lindsay A. White, M.A.

Lindsay White Lindsay White joined the School Counseling Group in 2009. She grew up in the Philadelphia area and her mother worked at The George School, a wonderful Quaker boarding school just north of the city. Lindsay attended Garrison Forrest as a boarder through high school, then St Lawrence before earning a Master’s in Psychological Counseling from NYU. She worked at an alternative inner city school in New York, then at Episcopal for 4 years as Director of Counseling and Assistant Director of Admissions. She has done lots of school-related volunteer work, raised her girls and more recently assisted in Admissions at Maret.

Jenney G. Wilder, M.S.Ed.

Jenney Wilder Jenney Wilder joined the School Counseling Group in 2005. She received a B.A. from Wheaton College (MA) and an M.S.Ed. from Bank Street College of Education (NY) with New York State teaching certifications in childhood general and special education. She is in the process of transferring her teaching certifications to Washington, DC. While a student at Bank Street, Ms. Wilder taught in two New York City public schools, one in East Harlem and the other in Tribeca. She also privately tutored students in reading and writing. Before earning her special education degree and becoming an educational consultant, Ms. Wilder spent several years at three successful start-up companies in Silicon Valley. Ms. Wilder is a native of the Washington, D.C. area where she attended public schools in Montgomery County before graduating from the Maret School. Ms. Wilder is a member of IECA and a board member of WISER.
