The School Counseling Group helps parents and students find the right direction on school-related issues. Founded by Ethna Hopper in 1979, we have helped thousands of families.

Our goal is to identify and evaluate schools, programs and other resources continually, and to provide our families with current, thoughtful, and effective options to address individual concerns. We are educators and partners with our clients in the challenging and rewarding process that accompanies a successful search.

The School Counseling Group has a range of services that we provide:

  • Day School: private, public, traditional, special needs, and relocation
  • Boarding School: regional, national, international, traditional or special needs
  • Crisis Intervention : wilderness, residential treatment, emotional growth boarding schools (therapeutic boarding schools)
  • College Guidance: public, private, learning disabilities, year-off/gap year, and application/essay support
  • Mentoring/Coaching Teens and Young Adults: goal setting, planning, and ongoing support
  • Referrals to local professionals for testing, tutoring, counseling, or school advocacy

For our clients we create an appropriate list of recommended schools or programs. We support and advocate during the application process both with the school and family.

Our educational consultants have worked in a remarkable variety of settings as teachers, coaches, administrators and counselors. Our collective experience numbers well over 100 years of service to families and young people.

How families find us

Many families we see have heard about us from other families who've used the services of The School Counseling Group.

Others are referred to us by their child's guidance counselor or by an educational diagnostician, doctor, or psychotherapist. Often, schools who are familiar with our work will suggest our name to families who need options.
